Why I'd Choose Door Hangers Over Mailers Every Single Time!

When it comes to getting the word out in your local election campaign, the bang for your buck really matters, especially in our small-town settings where every dollar counts. If you find yourself stuck between choosing to send out mailers or hanging door hangers throughout your voting universe, I'm here to tell you: go for the door hangers—a million times over! Let me explain why.

Cost-Effectiveness: Mailers can really thin out your wallet. I'd much rather invest that money in paying local students for canvassing. This not only supports our youth but also frees up funds for other crucial campaign activities. More hands on deck, more work done!

Visibility and Impact: Think about how you handle your mail. If you're anything like me, sorting mail happens right over the recycling bin. Most unsolicited mail barely gets a glance before it's tossed. Door hangers, on the other hand, literally hang around a bit longer. They have to be physically removed from door knobs, which almost guarantees a moment of visibility, if not a full read.

Engagement Opportunities: While it’s true that most door hangers might end up in the recycle bin, those canvassing will get the chance to leave a post it note on them. One strategy I love is pre-writing hundreds of post-it notes that say something like “Sorry I missed you” or “I’d love to talk”.  In this way a door hanger can really stand out.

Of course, the final call should always align with what’s best for your campaign and what you know about your community. If mailers have proven effective in your area, by all means, stick to what works. But if you're up for trying something that could potentially stretch your campaign dollars further and increase engagement, door hangers might just be the way to go.
